It’s time for the annual mid-year bump from several local minimum wage ordinances within California, effective July 1, 2024. The affected localities and new rates are as follows:

  • Alameda: $17.00 per hour
  • Berkeley: $18.67 per hour
  • Emeryville: $19.36 per hour
  • Fremont: $17.30 per hour
  • Los Angeles City: $17.28 per hour
  • Los Angeles County (unincorporated areas): $17.27 per hour
  • Malibu: $17.27 per hour
  • Milpitas: $17.70 per hour
  • Pasadena: $17.50 per hour
  • San Francisco: $18.67 per hour
  • Santa Monica: $17.27 per hour

Note that there may be separate industry-specific minimum wage rates that preempt these rates (for example, healthcare and fast-food workers state-wide). Also, employers who are affected by any of these new rates should check their local ordinance as to whether they have to post any specific notices related to the minimum wage rate. An employee who works remotely within any of these areas, even on a part-time basis, may also be subject to the applicable ordinance, so employers should also review the locations of remote workers.
