Scali Rasmussen Partner Melanie S. Cliff, chair of the firm’s Regulatory and Licensing Practice and co-chair for the firm’s Diversity Initiative, is among 75 honorees in today’s Los Angeles Business Journal special supplement honoring the city’s most influential women attorneys.

Cliff “has a broad-based practice covering state and federal regulatory, franchise, licensing, advertising and distribution matters, where she has led numerous complex multistate surveys across the nation,” says the annual supplement, published today. “She is recognized as a leading regulatory lawyer with exceptional experience in the automotive and technology start up space.”

The report adds that Cliff, a USC alum who obtained her J.D. from Tulane University Law School, has long-term clients that “continually look to her to navigate the many regulations and compliance requirements at the federal, state and local levels.”

Los Angeles Business Journal Publisher and CEO Anna Magzanyan explained that the honorees have been recognized for “exceptional legal skill and achievement across the full spectrum of responsibility, exemplary leadership as evidenced by the highest professional and ethical standards, and for contributions to the Los Angeles community at large… there are some particularly stellar attorneys in the LA region who happen to be women…thank you for working to keep the people and businesses of LA on the right track.”

Cliff has represented automotive industry clients on a variety of federal and state regulatory matters, leading work on compliance, advertising, and government investigations and audits. Cliff regularly advises start-up and late stage technology companies, including those with significant cross-border transactions.

Cliff’s “regulatory work with industry newcomers, including startup electric vehicle manufacturers and Internet based automotive companies, help identify and shape the direction of future law,” the report says.

Cliff recently joined the advisory board for ADCO (Association of Dealership Compliance Officers). She is a member of the National Association of Dealer Counsel, a member of the California Minority Counsel Program as well as a member of the International Association of Korean Lawyers. Cliff is also certified as a compliance and ethics professional and a dealership compliance officer professional.

Scali Rasmussen’s attorneys are thought leaders in the automotive industry, often called upon to provide their opinions on new and trending issues on auto distribution and franchise, F&I, employment and advertising issues. The firm drafted the CNCDA’s 2015 and 2017 Advertising Law Manuals, providing auto dealers with practical guidance on advertising practices.
